Jonno Axon didn't start out in gardening—he came to it the way many of us do, through necessity and curiosity. After years in the corporate world, he found himself drawn to creating something with his hands, something that actually grew.
What began as a simple vegetable patch became an obsession with understanding soil health from the ground up. Today, Jonno designs garden solutions that work with nature rather than against it, creating productive, beautiful spaces that require less intervention, not more.
Jonno's philosophy is straightforward: don't fight nature, feed it.
This means building soil health first, managing pests naturally through design rather than chemicals, and maximising every square meter of growing space—whether that's outdoors in a compact garden or indoors with statement plants that transform a room.
His background gives him a unique perspective. Growing up with a mother who ran a nursery in South Africa, teaching gardening skills to underprivileged communities, he understands that good gardening is about observation, patience, and working with natural systems.
Jonno's approach resonates with people who want beautiful, productive gardens without the endless maintenance cycle.
Based on Victoria's Bellarine and Bayside regions, Jonno creates:
In 2026, one of Jonno's garden designs was recognised by the London College of Garden Design, Melbourne, with his 'Lucky Block' installation selected for display at the 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
Most gardening advice tells you to fight: fight weeds, fight pests, fight disease. Jonno takes the opposite approach.
He believes the best gardens are designed ecosystems, not battlegrounds. Build healthy soil first—the kind teeming with microorganisms and earthworms doing the work you don't want to do. Design for natural pest control through strategic plant placement and physical barriers, not chemical interventions. Choose plants that want to grow in your conditions, not ones you have to prop up with constant attention.
This isn't about being hands-off—it's about being strategic. It means understanding that a thriving worm farm produces better fertiliser than anything you can buy. That vertical growing space isn't just efficient, it's often healthier because air circulates better and pests have harder access. That indoor plants aren't just decoration—they're living systems that improve your air quality while requiring almost nothing in return if you set them up correctly.
The result? Gardens that produce more while demanding less. Outdoor spaces that feed you without feeding your frustration. Indoor jungles that make a statement without making work.
Every design Jonno creates asks the same question: how do we create the conditions for nature to do what it does best, so you don't have to?
